Ms. Minney, a York County High School Senior, applied for the scholarship provided by the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute. The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute was organized in 1981, and serves as the educational arm of the Virginia Sheriff’s Association. The Institute, funded primarily by citizens throughout Virginia, is involved in a myriad of training and educational activities and does not participate in any political activities. Sheriff Diggs stated “It’s rewarding to see young citizens interested in a law enforcement career and to be able to help them in some way.” Ms. Minney is currently enrolled in a criminal justice program and it will be her major in the fall. She stated, “I appreciate the support of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute and look forward to a long career in law enforcement.”
