The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce as part of our reentry initiatives that on October 21, 2010 ten (10) inmates from the Arlington County Detention Facility successfully passed the ServSafe® certification program with very high scores (ranging from 85-98 percent). This program offers inmate workers the ability to earn a sanitation and food preparation certificate through a certified Aramark instructor, classroom education, video instruction and on-the-job training.

Aramark Corporation (contracted by Arlington County) provides food service for jail inmates and staff. Aramark continually educates inmate of their job responsibilities while working in the kitchen and using best practices for food handling. The ServSafe® Food Certification program is nationally recognized and has been an incentive for inmates to build their culinary skills while incarcerated.

To celebrate the accomplishment Sheriff Arthur presented the certificates to the most recent class graduates of the program. These inmates will now be able to use this certified training certificate to assist in obtaining employment in the food and restaurant industry after their release.
