It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Captain Walter G. Nicely. Captain Nicely Passed away on September 28, 2015 from surgical complications. He will be greatly missed by all.

Captain Nicely devoted his entire adult life to public service. He was an MP in the U.S. Army prior to beginning his law enforcement career with the Clifton Forge Police Department on September 27, 1988 and left at the rank of Sergeant on June 28, 2001 and came to work at the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office. Walter was a dedicated Deputy who worked his way to the rank of Patrol Captain in charge of the Patrol Division.

Captain Nicely leaves behind his wife Amanda Nicely, who is also a Sergeant assigned to the Corrections Division, 5 children, 2 sisters and a brother, Casey, who is a Sergeant assigned to the Patrol Division.

Walter was many things to many people. He was a husband, father, brother, coach, and beloved friend and coworker to many. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
