The Hampton Sheriff’s Office is honored and privileged to announce Deputy James Crosby as the ‘Deputy of the Year.’ Deputy Crosby was born and reared in Hampton, VA. He graduated from Phoebus High School in June 2007. Additionally, he studied at New Horizons Regional Education Center concentrating on engineering, robotics, and fiber optics. After graduating, he was employed as a manager at Pizza Hut. Soon after he became the lead photographer for Picture People, and then he worked at Best Buy in electronic sales.

In November of 2012, he began his present career with the Hampton Sheriff’s Office assigned to corrections and transportation services. Presently, Deputy Crosby is assigned to Information Technology (IT). The primary responsibility in this position is the management of our databases and various systems. His knowledge in technology was instrumental during our office transition to Zuercher Jail Management System. He has worked tirelessly ensuring that the jail management system met our office needs and all local and state interfaces were intact. Deputy Crosby made the transition from one jail management system to the next effortlessly. He has demonstrated creativity in ways to develop technical advances during his time spent in the information technology unit. He consistently comes to work with a professional, helpful attitude and dedicated to the mission. He assists by answering interoffice service calls, creating and developing an automated workflow processes, ensuring the data conversion was fully integrated by mastering Zuercher Suite applications. He immediately answers for calls of service to attend to the work at hand and gives 100 % percent. He is hardworking and extremely dedicated. He is highly conscientious of the office technical needs as he carries out his job duties. He is always willing to assist at any moment and takes time out of his busy schedule for staff that may need additional assistance utilizing the various system applications. He is a highly competent general instructor and specializes as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) instructor who strives to learn more to better train others. He is a problem solver; his solution focused attitude is observable in facing various tasks. He holds a compassionate spirit to assist whenever needed. His dedication and willingness to support the technology advances of our office is exemplary.

When Deputy Crosby is not supporting the technology components of the office, he spends much of this time contributing to the Sheriff`s Office community service programs. He participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics. He readily works with the Annual Children Festival, Child Identification, and Adopt a Senior Program.

When time permits, Deputy Crosby spends quality time with his wife Shalaine. He enjoys being a certified Professional Association Diving Instructor for scuba diving. His hobbies include photography, animation, and gaming design.
