The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office communications center has passed a rigorous audit of its records by the Virginia Department of State Police Criminal Justice Information Services Division (VSP CJIS) without a single major deficiency.
Representatives from VSP CJIS conducted an on-site audit this week of the communication center’s records, in particular its records maintained with the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN). This comprehensive audit is conducted with limited time for preparation and is conducted by scrutinizing a randomized portion of the records held by the center. After the audit, the representatives found no major deficiencies, giving, ‘high marks’ to the sheriff’s office.
“This news does not surprise me one bit,” said Sheriff Steve Smith. “Day in and day out, I see first hand the dedication and effort that our Administrative and Communications Staff put in every single day. Although I am proud of the results of this audit, I am even more proud of the talented and driven staff that we have at this Office. They are truly dedicated to helping the citizens and visitors of this county, every single day.”
Wanda Self, Communications Supervisor said, “I am so proud of our Communications Officers. They are here every minute of every day, working hard to make sure they are doing a good job and serving the community. They dispatch over 8,000 calls for service every year, answer tens of thousands of non-emergency phone calls, and are responsible for maintaining thousands of records. This audit is another example highlighting their efforts and diligence.”
Sheriff Smith wanted to make sure he recognized Betty Coates, Administrative Staff Specialist, Syd Davis, Records Clerk, Wanda Self, Communications Supervisor, and the eight communications officers for their great work.
“This is the result of their good work, and on behalf of this Office, we are proud of them.”
