The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute was organized in 1981 and serves as the educational arm of VSA. The Institute, funded primarily by citizens throughout Virginia, is involved in a myriad of training and educational activities and does not participate in any political activities. The Institute sponsors management and training conferences for sheriffs and deputies, programs for victims and witnesses of crime, scholarships for students entering into the criminal justice field, the DARE program, elderly abuse prevention programs and the National Sheriffs’ Institute.
