The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) is funded primarily by citizens and businesses throughout Virginia who want to support training and educational programs for Sheriffs and their Deputies to give them the tools they need to do their jobs more effectively, as well as provide scholarship programs and community services to people and organizations throughout the Commonwealth.  The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute is a non-profit 501(c) 3; your dues and/or contribution to the VSI are tax deductible.

Here are some of the programs that VSI supports – real time information and training to Sheriffs’ offices….Support of the Virginia Coalition of the Prevention of Elder Abuse…a scholarship program for young people throughout Virginia who major in Criminal Justices…funding to allow first-term Sheriffs to attend the National Sheriffs’ Institute Educational Program…training for the public, including a victim witness conference and Virginia 4-H shooting education program…and a $5,000 instant death benefit for families of Sheriffs or Deputy Sheriffs killed in the line of duty.

Individuals who want to show support of the VSI can join for $20 a year and renew their memberships at $25 a year.  Businesses can join and renew their membership for $40 a year.  There are also numerous other special appeals that you can contribute to as well, specifically the scholarship program and the in the line of duty death benefits to families of sheriffs and deputies that are killed while doing their job to protect the citizens of Virginia.

When you join or renew you membership in the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute, you will receive a membership identification card, a bumper sticker and decal for your car and a subscription to our associate member publication keeping you informed of the latest public safety news.
