The VSI respectively requests that all sheriffs and deputies shroud their badges out of respect for the two New York City police officers, P.O. Wenjian Liu and P.O. Rafael Ramos, that were assassinated over the weekend.
The VSI recommends the shrouding of badges until the funerals of the deceased are completed. P.O. Ramos’ funeral will be held on December 27. Officials are working to obtain travel documents for some of P.O. Liu’s family in China, and a funeral will be scheduled after they arrive in the United States.
These senseless murders are reflective of deeper societal issues that obviously should be addressed through peaceful means.
