The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) Scholarship Program was established to provide an opportunity for young people across Virginia to pursue an educational curriculum in law enforcement or criminal justice. Accordingly, the VSI’s Board of Directors has established the application process for students to receive scholarships to assist in their educational endeavors. The scholarships are available only to students in jurisdictions where sheriffs participate in the VSI’s fundraising efforts. Therefore, students in your jurisdiction are eligible to receive this scholarship. This program is limited to students attending Virginia colleges and universities.
The Board relies on sheriffs to publicize the scholarship fund and distribute applications to students in their jurisdictions. The scholarship committee is asking those sheriffs who receive more than one application to prioritize the applications before returning them to the Institute’s office. The application deadline for the 2017-2018 school year is May 1, 2017. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered. It is necessary for you to submit a letter of recommendation with each completed application.
