Three students from Newport News have each won a $1,000 scholarship from the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute to pursue a criminal justice degree at the college of their choice.
Sheriff Gabe Morgan met with Shaquita Smith in his office and presented her the certificate acknowledging the award.
Ms. Smith attended An Achievable Dream. She’s looking forward to starting classes at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.
“I’m interested in pursuing forensics, crime scene investigations or juvenile justice,” she told Sheriff Morgan.
Other winners from Newport News are Alexis Glass, who received her second VSI scholarship and is attending ODU, and Annabelle K. Hoffman, who will be attending Virginia Tech.
