The Hampton Sheriff’s Office and Bethel High School Academy of Law and Public Safety (ALPS) partnered for two weeks this summer to challenge students to create a curriculum for students planning for a career in law enforcement. Sheriff Deputies made several school visits, presenting the students with a first-hand account of the duties of a Correctional Officer in Hampton. Student field trips included observing a full morning of cases at a Hampton Court, a Hampton Sheriff’s Office orientation hiring session and a visit to the Hampton Jail, where Deputies discussed the duties of a Correctional Officer. At the course’s end six teams made power point presentations to Hampton Undersheriff Colonel K. Bowden with the information they gathered that would give students a course of study with valuable information and would prepare them for a law enforcement career.
