The Hampton Sheriff’s Office participated and hosted several events of community engagement during Faith and Blue Weekend in October. The events partnered with faith organizations, law enforcement, community leaders and young and senior citizens on the Peninsula.
Sheriff Karen Bowden initiated the creation of an Interfaith Advisory Council to create available counseling to inmates and staff through a chaplain network during times of crisis. 16 faith leaders from around the Peninsula attended a luncheon at the Hampton Community Corrections Center on October 9 to hear Sheriff’s Bowden’s mission for chaplain’s assistance and move forward with the council. During the luncheon presentation, questions were fielded from the pastors to confirm the mission and their desire to create a partnership to benefit those in need.
The next meeting will confirm the participation of churches in the Interfaith Advisory Council program.
