April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. To create a greater awareness, the Hampton Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Peake Childhood Center of Hampton and Healthy Families Partnership to deliver gifts, safety materials and smiles to children before Easter. Sheriff Karen Bowden, Deputies and staff handed out Easter Bunnies and Child Identification kits to nearly 75 children at Bluebird Gap Farm during an event sponsored by Healthy Families. Sheriff Deputies and staff followed up the next day with an escort of the Easter Bunny to the Peake Childhood Center. Nearly 170 children received the stuffed bunnies and the child identification kits.
The mission is to keep our children safe and to know that they are special. The kits include a booklet with an ink pad allowing parents to copy their children’s fingerprints at home to assist with protecting children within the Hampton Roads Community.
