On June 28, Sheriff Vanessa Crawford of Petersburg Sheriff’s Office received the National Sheriff’s Association “Sheriff of the Year” award, at the National Sheriff’s Association conference, held in Kansas City, Missouri. Sheriff Crawford was selected from sheriffs who were nominated from across the country. She is the first female and first female of color to be nominated and win in the 27 year history of this organization. Members of Virginia Sheriffs’ Association, Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute, sheriffs, deputies, and members of the law enforcement community from across the Commonwealth joined in congratulating Sheriff Crawford on this well-deserved award.
