On Monday, June 24, 2024, the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office teamed up with a locally-owned restaurant, The Rustic Spoon for a Tip-A-Cop event to raise money for Special Olympics Virginia. During breakfast and lunch, sheriff’s office personnel paired up with waitstaff to bus tables, refill drinks, deliver food, and more. While deputies were interacting with restaurant patrons, they were also explaining the fundraiser, the mission of Special Olympics, and how the donation helps the athletes. The event turned out to be a success with NSO staff raising $2702, which is their largest single-day Special Olympics fundraiser to date.
