Supporting Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office hosted a successful National Prescription Drug Take Back and Shred Event on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Melrose Plaza. Designed to promote the safe disposal of unused medications and protect against identity theft, the event brought together community members, law enforcement, and local partners for an impactful day of service.

In total, the sheriff’s office collected 206.9 pounds of medications, including:

  • 131.1 pounds from the event site at Melrose Plaza,
  • 55.4 pounds from the agency’s permanent drop boxes, and
  • 20.4 pounds from a partnered collection site at the local community college.

Sheriff Antonio D. Hash and deputies were on-site to assist participants and share information on safe disposal practices. Commonwealth Document Management, a longtime partner, provided shredding services to help residents securely dispose of sensitive documents.

These efforts reflect the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to public safety, opioid prevention, and identity protection within the community.
