Supporting Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office held a graduation ceremony for the recruits of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office 75th Session Academy. Twenty-four individuals received their badges and took their oath of office in front of over 250 family and friends during a ceremony at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center at Norfolk State University. The ceremony featured remarks from Sheriff Joe Baron, NSO Training Captain Brad Ward, Class President – Deputy Kole Ward, and guest speaker the Honorable Circuit Court Judge Michelle Atkins.

The night even included a marriage proposal by one of the recruits who surprised his girlfriend after she pinned him. The night was truly a cause for celebration. Since January the men and women of Session 75 have completed rigorous training, practical scenarios, and classroom assignments to earn their badges. We are so proud of each of them and excited to see where their careers take them.
