On May 15, 2025, the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Petersburg TRIAD, transformed the city into a tropical haven as it proudly celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Senior’s Day. Themed “Hawaiian Paradise,” this vibrant event brought together seniors from across the city, who arrived adorned in festive spring attire, leis, and hula skirts, ready to enjoy a day full of fun, community, and crucial safety resources.
The event, hosted by the always engaging Rev. Cavell Phillips as Master of Ceremonies, featured high-energy performances from the talented students of Westview Early Childhood Education Center, the S.K.I.M. (Seniors Keeping it Moving) Dancers, and Anthony Artis & Friends Choir, among others. Attendees were treated to a flavorful luau provided by Cindy’s Creation, and a host of vendors who were on site offering valuable information tailored to the senior community. The day concluded with games, prizes, and smiles all around.
The Honorable Mayor of Petersburg, Samuel Parham, also presented a Proclamation to the Petersburg TRIAD celebrating 20 years of service to the community. In a momentous addition to this year’s celebration, Sheriff Vanessa R. Crawford introduced “Confirm OK,” a new safety initiative designed to support seniors and vulnerable community members through scheduled check-in
calls. The program offers peace of mind to individuals living alone, caregivers managing loved ones’ well-being, and local law enforcement agencies dedicated to protecting older adults.
“For two decades, we’ve been committed to not just celebrating our seniors, but empowering them with the tools and information they need to stay safe, connected, and confident,” said Sheriff Crawford. “The launch of Confirm OK is a natural extension of our mission – a bridge between independence and assurance, showing our seniors that they are never alone.”
The Petersburg TRIAD and the Sheriff’s Office remain steadfast in their mission to support, educate, and uplift the city’s aging population. With a dynamic blend of community, culture, and care, this year’s Senior’s Day was both a heartfelt tribute and a step forward in public safety innovation.
