On Saturday, December 6th, the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Walmart and Norfolk Public Schools, hosted the first of two Shop with a Deputy events. The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office Community Affairs Division contacted Norfolk Public Schools who identified several children who would benefit from the program. Those children along with their siblings arrived at Walmart bright and early and were each given a $75 gift card to shop alongside deputies for items they would like for Christmas.
Over the next couple of hours, the children selected items ranging from toys and electronics to clothes and snacks. The smiles on the faces of the children and deputies when they were standing in line at the checkout showed how much joy these events bring to everyone involved. The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office will host a second Shop with a Deputy event on December 18th.
