The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office is proud to congratulate the graduates of its second Citizen’s Academy session Over 10 weeks, our participants committed their Monday evenings to learning, asking questions, and gaining a deeper understanding of how public safety works in Culpeper County.
From October 6 through December 8, these citizens met weekly to experience a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes look at CCSO operations. Along the way, they received course materials, participated in hands-on demonstrations, and built meaningful connections with our deputies, staff, and leadership.
Throughout the academy, participants explored a wide range of topics, including:
Agency leadership, finance, and budget operations
Patrol operations, traffic stops, DUI enforcement, building searches, and law enforcement technology
Professional Standards, accreditation, records management, public information, and communications
Jail operations, booking procedures, fingerprinting, and facility tours
Court operations, including magistrates, mock testimony, prosecutors, and judges
Criminal Investigations, crime analysis, evidence handling, task forces, and real case studies
School Resource Division, focusing on roles, responsibilities, active threat response, and school partnerships
Specialty demonstrations, including K9, SWAT, drones, and a closing cookout at Lenn Park
Concealed Weapons course and firearms range training, completing the 10th and final week of the academy
The academy concluded with a completion ceremony, certificate presentations, and time for families and friends to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates.
Programs like the Citizen’s Academy are a cornerstone of transparency, education, and trust. We are grateful to every participant who invested their time and energy into learning more about how we serve this community and look forward to welcoming a new group of citizens in the future.
