Supporting Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

Sheriff Crawford and members of the Sheriff’s Office proudly participated in Reading Across America Week by visiting local schools throughout the community to read to students of all ages. During the week-long celebration, deputies visited elementary classrooms sharing books, encouraging literacy, and engaging students in meaningful conversations about the importance of education. The visits were part of the national Read Across America Week initiative, which promotes reading and celebrates the joy of books among children and young adults. Sheriff Crawford emphasized the importance of building positive relationships with youth beyond law enforcement interactions.

“Reading to our children is about more than just books,” said Sheriff Crawford. “It’s about showing them that we care, that we support their education, and that we are here to serve as positive role models in their lives.”
The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to community engagement and youth outreach initiatives that strengthen trust and foster positive relationships with families throughout the county.
