The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) is proud to announce the award of 66 scholarships totaling $64,000 to deserving individuals across the Commonwealth. These scholarships support students pursuing degrees in criminal justice at Virginia colleges and universities. Full-time students receive $1,000 scholarships, and part-time students receive $500 scholarships. Click HERE to view the full list of scholarship recipients.
“As both a sheriff and a father, I know how important it is to encourage young people as they work toward meaningful careers in service to others,” said Dickenson County Sheriff Jeremy D. Fleming, President of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute. “These scholarships help remove financial barriers for students committed to criminal justice and public safety, and the VSI is proud to support the next generation of professionals who will serve and protect communities across the Commonwealth.”
“Our scholarship program exists because of the strong and continued support of more than 24,000 associate and business members across the Commonwealth,” said John W. Jones, Executive Director of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute. “Their generosity allows us to invest directly in students preparing for careers in criminal justice and public service. These scholarships reflect a shared commitment to strengthening public safety by supporting the next generation of professionals who will serve communities across Virginia.”
The VSI is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established by Virginia sheriffs, which provides training and education to the members of the VSI, including sheriffs and deputy sheriffs across Virginia, on issues relating to management, crime prevention, and other areas of public safety.
Sheriffs will receive confirmation letters and certificates from VSI to present to students. Recipients will also receive acceptance letters that must be signed and returned to enable VSI to issue scholarship checks directly to the appropriate colleges and universities.
