The Petersburg Sheriff’s Office continues its commitment to community outreach
through the successful completion of the 2026 Law Enforcement Camp. Held from July
20–24 at the Petersburg Public Library, the camp served as a bridge between the badge
and the youth of our city.
The curriculum went beyond basic instruction, focusing on the core tenets of public
service, leadership, and integrity. Sgt. DeCarla Evans was instrumental in the week’s
success, providing consistent mentorship and hands-on guidance. The campers were
privileged to hear from an impressive roster of career experts—including judges, police
and fire chiefs, sheriffs, and conservation officers and others—who provided firsthand
accounts of what it means to serve with honor.
“Our Law Enforcement Camp is about building trust… and showing our young people
that law enforcement is rooted in service to the community,” said Sheriff Vanessa Reese
Crawford. There is nothing quite like watching the next generation realize their potential.
The Sheriff’s Office thanks our community partners and the families of Petersburg for
