April has been a month of celebration, appreciation, and leadership for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 14th, Career Deputy Townes was recognized by VFW Post 2239 with a Law Enforcement Award, honoring him as Deputy of the Year for 2024. The award celebrates his outstanding dedication to the Sheriff’s Office and excellence in the performance of his daily duties. Sheriff Karl Leonard, along with two representatives from the VFW, shared remarks in recognition of Deputy Townes’ service. Congratulations, Deputy Townes—your tireless efforts continue to make us CSO Proud!
That same week, Sheriff Leonard was invited by the Better Business Bureau to serve as an expert speaker for “The Lost Art of Listening,” a compelling leadership discussion focused on how conscious listening can transform business relationships and enhance decision-making. Co-hosted by Kate Scott, the session explored the impact of active listening in leadership, business, and beyond.
In addition, the Sheriff’s Office participated in National Public Safety Telecommunicators Appreciation Week, observed April 13–19, 2025. We offer our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated men and women of the Chesterfield County Emergency Communications Center, whose work is vital to the safety of both first responders and residents. As a token of appreciation, Sheriff Leonard awarded gift cards to two staff members—selected from the off-going night shift and the incoming day shift—during a special drawing held April 15th.
