The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office recently held its 2nd Annual D.A.R.E. Fishing Tournament, bringing in a strong turnout and significant community support to benefit local youth education efforts. Participation in the 2025 tournament tripled from last year’s event, with 33 competitors casting lines in support of the county’s D.A.R.E. program.
Through entry fees, donations, and sponsorships, the tournament raised over $9,400, all of which will directly support the delivery of the D.A.R.E. program, to 5th grade students across Shenandoah County Public Schools.
D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a nationally recognized program that teaches students critical skills for resisting drugs, alcohol, peer pressure, and violence, while also promoting responsible decision-making and healthy life choices.
The event was spearheaded by Master Deputy Justin Thompson, who successfully organized and executed the tournament for the second year in a row. His efforts were instrumental in expanding the tournament’s reach and ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for participants.
The success of the tournament reflects the strong community ties and proactive leadership within the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Tim Carter, who continues to prioritize youth outreach and preventive education as part of the agency’s mission.
With momentum building, the Sheriff’s Office looks forward to continuing the tradition in 2026, strengthening both community partnerships and the future of the D.A.R.E. program in Shenandoah County.
