For two weeks in July the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office hosted the 2025 Sheriff Joe Baron Youth Summer Camps. Our camp consists of two, one-week free summer camps allowing each participant to attend one of the two weeks. Between the two weeks we hosted more than 80 children from throughout Norfolk.
We always have such a great time with attendees and this year was no different. Each week campers enjoyed field trips fishing with Norfolk Park Rangers; a field trip to the Chrysler Museum, and a field trip to the Elizabeth River Project’s Dominion Energy Learning Barge; instructor led painting from Pinot’s Palette, and activities such as archery, canoeing, water activities, and more. During the second week, Attorney General Jason Miyares stopped by to visit the camp and speak with attendees. The camp is conducted in partnership with the Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast, Norfolk Park Rangers, and Norfolk Public Schools who provides busses for transportation and meals for attendees. NSO deputies and staff facilitated the summer camp with the goal of building trust between law enforcement officers and campers, teaching important lessons outside the classroom – to include the Attorney General’s Office’s Virginia Rules – and letting kids have fun.
