The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office is proud to welcome its newest K9 team member, K9 Xena. Xena is a 17-month-old yellow Labrador Retriever trained in explosives and firearm detection. Her specialized training and keen sense of smell make her an important asset to our agency and an integral part of maintaining public safety throughout Shenandoah County.
Xena’s handler, Master Deputy Colton Manich, also serves as a School Resource Officer. Together, they form a highly skilled team dedicated to both law enforcement and community engagement. During the school day, K9 Xena will be stationed at Triplett Tech alongside Deputy Manich. In this role, she will contribute to maintaining a secure and welcoming learning environment for students and staff. Outside of the school setting, the pair will be available to assist with detection operations and other law enforcement activities throughout the county whenever needed.
The addition of K9 Xena enhances the Sheriff’s Office’s capability to respond to public safety concerns involving explosives or firearms, while also fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. Her calm temperament, intelligence, and enthusiasm for her work make her not only a reliable detection K9 but also a friendly ambassador for the Sheriff’s Office.
