The Petersburg Sheriff’s Office continues to demonstrate commitment to community welfare by donating space heaters to the Petersburg Department of Social Services (DSS) to assist families experiencing heating challenges during the winter season. The donated space heaters will be distributed by DSS to households most in need, helping ensure residents remain safe and warm during periods of extreme cold. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of partnerships between public safety agencies and social service organizations in addressing urgent community needs.
“Public safety goes beyond law enforcement—it’s about caring for the well-being of our neighbors,” said Sheriff Crawford. “No family should have to choose between
safety and warmth. By working with the Department of Social Services, we are doing our part to ensure vulnerable families have the resources they need during this cold season.”
Director William D’Aiuto, Sherilyn Merritt, the Family Services Supervisor and the Petersburg Department of Social Services expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that the space heaters will have an immediate and meaningful impact on families facing financial hardship or unexpected heating disruptions. Sheriff Crawford emphasized that the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office remains committed to service, compassion, and proactive community engagement, particularly when addressing issues that directly affect quality of life.
