The Charles City County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to Rev. Smith and the New Vine Baptist Church family for honoring Retired Sergeant Doris Banks during their Black History Month Program. Retired Sgt. Banks, who concluded her remarkable career in 2006 after 34 years of dedicated service, holds the distinction of being the first African American female deputy to serve the Charles City County Sheriff’s Office.
Family members, current and former members of the Sheriff’s Office, Retired Sheriff B.A. Washington, Sr., and other county employees gathered to recognize her lasting impact and legacy of service. Sgt. Banks’ commitment, leadership, and courage paved the way for those who followed.
We proudly salute Retired Sgt. Doris Banks as a true pioneer and trailblazer whose service continues to inspire.
