Sheriff Don Sloan and members of the Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with Horizon Behavioral Health and Lynchburg Kroger Stores participated in the DEA’s “National Drug Take Back Day” which took place Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10 am until 2 pm. Lynchburg Sheriffs’ Office deputies along with representatives from Horizon Behavioral Health provided secure locations for citizens to drop-off unused or unwanted prescription drugs at each of the following Kroger store locations:

Kroger 7805 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, Virgina 24502
Kroger 4119 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, Virginia 24503
Sheriff’s deputies distributed information about drug safety awareness while Horizon Behavioral Health offered free Narcan and Narcan training. Information about Lynchburg Project Lifesaver and its capabilities for those who wander and become lost was also provided.
Sheriff Sloan stated that at the end of the day, deputies had collected a total of 305 pounds of drugs from the event, which were turned over to the Virginia State Police for destruction.
