Supporting Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

Twenty-five big, burly Fairfax Sheriff’s deputies pulled a 164,000 pound plane twelve feet in 6.102 seconds, good for second place. The Dulles Day Plane Pull, held on September 25 at Dulles International Airport, is a fun competition to see which group can pull a Boeing 757 the fastest.  Teams are made up of 25 members who line up adjacent to a rope that is attached to the front of the aircraft.

The Dulles Day Festival has grown up around the competition, and features a wide variety of activities for the entire family. Entry fees and corporate sponsorships benefit Special Olympics Virginia. The Sheriff’s Office has participated in this event for the past 18 years.

In addition to the Plane Pull, Fairfax Sheriff’s deputies participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run as well as “Tip a Cop” and “Celebrity Waiter” events held at area restaurants, all in support of Special Olympics Virginia.

Special Olympics Virginia is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Virginia touches the lives of more than 40,000 athletes and volunteers in every city and county across Virginia. The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office is proud to support these athletes and their families.
