Greene County residents can now safely dispose of old prescriptions at their Sheriff’s Office by utilizing the recently-installed prescription drug disposal box outside its building.
Sheriff Steve Smith used asset forfeiture funds to purchase the white curbside drop-off box that is shaped like an old Postal Service mailbox for people to conveniently drop off old prescription drugs rather than flush them or have them fall into the wrong hands. By installing the box outside the office, the box can be monitored 24/7, and the Sheriff’s Office will incinerate the medications.
Sheriff Smith said that by allowing people to drop off old drugs, it will keep them out of septic tanks and wastewater systems, as well as the hands of children and criminals.
