Sheriff Ron Gillispie has served in law enforcement for over 43 years, and served as Lynchburg Sheriff since January 2002. After implementing many positive changes including the replacement of Wachenhut Security with retired deputies and police officers for court room security, with TDO (Temporary Detention Order) transports assisting the Lynchburg Police Department since October of 2002 allows police officers to stay in Lynchburg policing the streets and, as promised during his 2001 campaign, bringing the Project Lifesaver program to Lynchburg in April, 2002, Sheriff Gillispie was re-elected in November 2005, 2009, and 2013.
