The New Kent Sheriff’s Office has established a ‘Safe Exchange Zone’ in front of the office located at 11995 Courthouse Circle, New Kent, VA 23124. This area can be used for custody transfers, exchanges from online purchases, the transfer of property where there is concern or in similar situations. Signs have been erected marking two available parking spaces immediately in front of the office for this purpose.
Sheriff Joe McLaughlin stated, “These spaces are subject to observation by video cameras and Sheriff’s Office staff. It is our intent to provide the citizens of New Kent with a safe area in which they can feel secure in making exchanges.”
