Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Recognizes Flag Day
What we know fondly as the “Stars and Stripes” was adopted by the Second Continental Congress as the official American flag on June 14, 1777, in the midst of the Revolutionary War. Colonial troops fought under many different flags with various symbols; the nation’s founders sought to produce one united flag to represent our new nation.
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson declared June 14 each year as Flag Day. The US Army also shares June 14 with Flag Day as its birthday, when ten companies of riflemen were authorized by a resolution of the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775.
Happy Birthday to Old Glory.
