The Wise County Sheriff’s Office was voted “Best Place to Work” in The Coalfield Progress Readers’ Choice Awards 2022- Best of the Best. In addition to “Best Place to Work”, readers also voted on Mr. Wise County, Ms. Wise County, and Best Law Enforcement/Fire Fighter of the Year.

Wise County Sheriff Grant Kilgore was voted Mr. Wise County for Best of the Best 2022. Kilgore has been with the sheriff’s department for 38 years where he started as a deputy under Sheriff Kelly. Kilgore feels privileged and appreciates the vote of confident.

Tasha Chandler was voted Best of the Best Mr. Wise County 2022. Chandler is a domestic violence investigator for the Wise County Sheriff’s Office. Chandler was very grateful for the honor and said everything she does is for the community, whether it be law enforcement, coaching ball or mentoring kids.

Michael Chandler was chosen Best of the Best Police officer and fire fighter. Chandler was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap and worked as a police officer for four years. He volunteered with the fire department since he was in high school.  Chandler was killed in the line of duty in November. His widow, Tasha Chandler, said Michael would have been speechless and very honored to be called best of the best.
