On Thursday, November 16, 2023, the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office hosted the 72nd Session Academy Graduation Ceremony at the Harrison Opera House. Since July, 11 recruits have worked hard and successfully completed rigorous training, practical scenarios, and written tests. Nine of the graduating recruits were sworn in as deputies with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office and the remaining two were sworn in as jailors with Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
The graduation ceremony featured remarks from Sheriff Joseph Baron and guest speaker Brian C. Dugan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Norfolk Field Office. The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard performed the presentation of colors and the National Anthem was sung by Norfolk Sheriff’s Office Sgt. M. Mitchell. The deputies were sworn in by the Clerk of Circuit Court, Honorable George E. Schaefer III.
