“Individuals, businesses and organizations of all types support VSI with their contributions. I would like to thank those who have been supporters over the years and all who have recently joined VSI as associate and business members,” said Pittsylvania County Sheriff Michael W. Taylor, President of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute. “Thanks to your contributions and continued generosity, this scholarship program is a tremendous success, advancing the aspirations of 49 deserving individuals.”
The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established by Virginia sheriffs, which provides training and education to the members of the VSI, including sheriffs and deputy sheriffs across Virginia, on issues relating to management, crime prevention, and other areas of public safety.
All Virginia citizens are eligible to become members of the VSI upon invitation from their local sheriff.
“The sheriffs and their citizen supporters around Virginia are the reason for the success of this program,” said John W. Jones, Executive Director of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute. “Currently, we have over 27,200 associate and business members of the VSI. We are extremely proud and grateful for all of our associate and business members as well as our training and educational programs that help make Virginia a safer place in which to live.”
Sheriffs will be receiving confirmation letters from the VSI along with certificates, which they should sign and present to the students when they are able. Students will be receiving acceptance letters that they need to sign and return, which will enable the VSI to issue scholarship checks to the appropriate colleges and universities.
