Sheriff Morgan is proud to announce that Lt. J. Barham is the Newport News Sheriff’s Office Deputy of the Year.

The sheriff presented the certificate to him and other accolades have followed.

“It was a shock and a nice surprise,” Barham said.

Lt. Barham joined the Newport News Sheriff’s Office in November 2005. He has worked in Jail Operations and Civil Enforcement and is now back at the City Jail as a shift leader.

No matter where he’s assigned, Barham is dedicated to making a difference for our citizens, those in custody, and his co-workers.  He never hesitates to volunteer for community events, he enjoys leading training sessions, and he’s always looking for ways to inspire his teammates.

Barham was recognized by American Legion Braxton-Perkins Post 25 at its annual Law and Order Night dinner; last weekend, he was honored by Knights of Columbus Council #5480 at its annual appreciation dinner for select first responders.
