Supporting Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

Last Thursday, Virginia Beach Sheriff Rocky Holcomb’s “The Sound of BDO (Beat da Odds)” performed at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, singing two original songs to an inspired crowd of more than 100 stakeholders. Artist/activist Kenyatta Emmanuel also shared his music from New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility to Carnegie Hall, offering a full live concert the same day of his release after serving 24½ years in prison. Kenyatta collaborated with The Sound of BDO on one of his original songs during the hour-long event.

Sheriff Holcomb wanted to make sure that his team of deputies and civilians knew that the event was more than just a concert for the public. It was a culmination of their ideas to provide programs that positively motivate inmates instead of cultivating negativity behind bars. It highlighted the work they do 24/7/365 in the jail.
