Supporting Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

Newport News Sheriff Gabe Morgan’s Project Lifesaver program is a lifeline for residents with cognitive conditions who may wander from safety. Offered free of charge, the program serves about 60 children and adults, giving their loved ones much-needed peace of mind.

The program relies on donations and two annual fundraisers – a car and bike show and an escorted motorcycle ride – to cover the cost of essential equipment.

A biker attending the ride for the first time in 2024 spoke with Project Lifesaver coordinator Capt. Gross and shared the program’s mission with his employer. As a result, Genesis Fiber Optic Splicing now donates $500 a month to support the program. Company officials expressed their pride in contributing to such an important initiative and hope their commitment inspires others to join in supporting Project Lifesaver.

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office also receives annual donations from longtime supporters, including Pearson Toyota, which has supported the program for more than 15 years, Newport News Moose Lodge #1119, American Legion Posts 25 and 368, and Hampton Roads Harley Davidson.

Sheriff Morgan expressed gratitude for the community’s generous support, noting that donations and NNSO-hosted events raise thousands of dollars annually to sustain Project Lifesaver in Newport News.

As the NNSO enters its 19th year as a Project Lifesaver agency, it remains steadfastly committed to the program’s mission: Bringing loved ones home. The Newport News Sheriff’s Office proudly maintains a 100% success rate in locating clients who have wandered away and ensuring their safe return.
