Lynchburg Sheriff Don Sloan and Chief Deputy Tommy Carter participated in the Dementia Hope Conference that was held at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia on March 15, 2025. The event hosted several professionals speaking on everything from caring for caregivers, paperwork and finances for seniors, caregiver burnout, personal body health, staying active at home, updates on Alzheimer’s research, senior scams, to self-care/anticipatory grief dealing with Dementia. Several discussion sessions and panel Q&A were held. Sheriff Sloan and Chief Deputy Carter spoke during two breakout sessions on the subject of “Senior Scams and Personal Safety.” Handouts on senior safety and wellness as well as information on Project Lifesaver were provided to attendees.
