Supporting Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

Lt. Christopher Bailey and Administrative Assistant LaShawn Smith of the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office made a meaningful impact at Cool Spring Elementary School’s Career Day, where they were warmly welcomed with hugs and high-fives from enthusiastic students of all grade levels.

During the event, Lt. Bailey and Mrs. Smith provided detailed insights into the vital functions of the Sheriff’s Office, offering students a glimpse into their daily responsibilities. Lt. Bailey explained the process of becoming a Deputy Sheriff, emphasizing the importance of education, discipline, and following the law. Mrs. Smith shared inspirational messages, encouraging students to pursue their dreams and reminding them that they can achieve anything with determination and hard work.

In recognition of their participation, Sheriff Vanessa R. Crawford was honored with a certificate of appreciation, which Lt. Bailey and Mrs. Smith graciously accepted on her behalf.

“We are committed to engaging with the youth in our community and inspiring them to aim high,” said Sheriff Crawford. “Career Day provides a valuable opportunity to foster meaningful connections and educate students about the role of law enforcement in keeping our communities safe.”

The Petersburg Sheriff’s Office looks forward to continuing its outreach efforts, promoting education,
and serving as positive role models for the next generation.
