TRAINING CONTINUES AT LOCAL COLLEGE
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office continued AAIR Training at Ferrum College today, Tuesday, July 23rd. Several weeks ago, this session was held and today’s endeavor was a continuation of the same. AAIR stands for Active Attack Integrated Response where multi – agencies are brought in from law enforcement, public safety and administration to conduct best practices when dealing with tragic scenarios. Sheriff Overton commented, “Wonderful to see the community come together and work in unison for this goal of staying prepared. Thanks to Ferrum College, Dr. Johns, all of our L. E. partners and public safety.”
Along with the Office of the Sheriff, participating agencies were; Virginia State Police, Ferrum College Police Department, Virginia Conservation Police and Franklin County Public Safety.
LOCAL AGENCY TAKES RAD TRAINING
Not long ago, the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center held a RAD Class. RAD stands for Rape Aggression Defense. It is designed to teach women realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. These simple, but effective moves also work for men to ward off attackers, as well. Deputy Joe Wooldridge teaches these classes and Deputy Stephannie Mills assisted. Thanks to all the CASA workers who volunteered for this training.

RETIREMENT EVENT HELD AT FCSO
Two Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies retired and the Office of The Sheriff held a celebration. Lt. Mark Sweeney had over 2 decades of service at FCSO and Deputy Richard Pulliam had a similar amount of years with a couple of agencies. Sheriff Overton spoke on how much each had given to law enforcement and believed with them for a prosperous retirement.
